Old wives’ tales about pregnancy have been helping women answer the question: Am I having a boy or girl? How long has this be so? Well, about as long as there have been women getting pregnant, and of course, some old wives’! lol
I wouldn’t put too much trust in the results you get from these old wives’ tales, but they sure can be a lot of fun at your next baby shower, or family get-together.
If you are pregnant and want to know if your fetus is a boy or girl for sure, well you’ll have to opt for either a Amniocentesis, or Chorionic Villus Sampling test, which are up to 99% accurate, or an Ultrasound which isn’t as accurate, but also isn’t as invasive as those other two procedures (both of which won’t be preformed for just gender prediction alone.)
Without further adieu let’s take a look at the five most popular old wives’ tales (in my informal survey-that is.)
1. The Ring Test-This old wives’ tale is fun and very easy to perform. Just take the mother-to-be’s wedding ring (or any ring or metal object for that matter) and tie it on the end of a strand of her hair (preferably) or a string, and suspend it over the pregnant woman’s belly. If the ring moves side to side in a straight line the baby is a boy, if however the ring begins to move in a circular motion the baby’s a girl.
2. The Drano Test-This ones a little scary, but very popular none-the-less. If you decide to try it you just need to put a teaspoon of Drano in a glass container (there may be some heat generated, so be careful) and add some of the soon-to-be a mother’s urine (taken first thing in the morning.) If the resulting solution ( do this outside, and watch out for dangerous fumes, please) is brownish colored it’s a boy, if it stays clear it’s a girl.
3. How You Carry Your Baby-If you carry the baby high in your womb it’s a girl, if the baby’s carried lower it’s a boy.
4. The Fetuses Heart Rate-If the fetus has a heart rate of 140 or higher it’s a girl, below this it’s a boy.
5. Foods You Crave-If you are hungry for sweets you’ll have a baby girl, if it’s salty/sour foods you crave it’s a boy baby.
